AutoTheft

The Texas Automobile Theft Prevention Authority (ATPA) was established by the Texas 72nd Legislature in June 1991, to create a statewide effort for the reduction of vehicle theft. The ATPA program is an innovative approach toward preventing and reducing auto theft related offenses by directing resources at the root causes while building a community prevention model. 3. Try and park in well-lit areas.
4. Keep valuables and packages out of sight.
5. Use theft deterrents-car alarms, steering wheel locks (Club type), kill switches.

Participate in the statewide H.E.A.T.
(Help End Auto Theft) Program.

The HEAT program is a statewide vehicle registration progam aimed at reducing auto theft during nighttime hours. (In Austin over 40% of all vehicles stolen are in the late evening to early morning hours). Vehicle owners not normally using their vehicles between 1 and 5 a.m. sign an agreement allowing peace officers to verify ownership if they observe the vehicle being driven during those hours. Two HEAT stickers are placed on the vehicle identifying HEAT participation.
